We thought we’d share with you a few resources that have been a blessing to our family recently.  Hope some might be a blessing to you too!

313NsPYFz0L._AA160_Seeds Family Worship – I had heard about these cds from various people but finally was introduced to the Seeds of Praise album when I saw an offer for a free download.  The songs are all straight from the Bible – literally the words of Scripture.  Our whole family has enjoyed listening to the music.  The catchy tunes are fun to sing, easy to pick up and best of all they are embedding God’s word in our hearts.  Peter and I got the Power of Encouragement album for the kids for an Easter present and we are eager to try the other albums someday too.  I noticed in the Sonlight curriculum catalog that when you buy a SFW album through Sonlight, they will send you a second album of the same title, free, to share with a friend (they don’t say this on the website but I think the offer is still on).  Great deal! (Here is the link to Sonlight’s

51AITpYCj7L._AA160_Meaning of Marriage  – by Tim Keller – My cousin recently told me that this was hands-down, the best book she’s ever read on marriage.  That caught my attention and I recently read the book and found it to be excellent, just like she said.  It is insightful, biblical and paints a beautiful and inspiring vision for what a Christ-honouring marriage can and should be.  Highly recommend it.

logo2 Saying Goodbye – This video was recommended on an American blog post, so I was surprised to find it was produced by a UK charity that offers support to those who have experienced baby loss.  This video touched me so much and I have watched it many times over the past few months since we lost our baby.  Peter and I also decided to attend one of the Saying Goodbye cathedral services at the end of March.  We went into it a bit skeptical about what the service might be like but it really surpassed our expectations.  The music was beautiful and included the song, I Will Carry You by Selah, (click here for a video of the song) which we had heard before and has touched us very much.  There were other songs, Scripture readings, poems and chances to acknowledge the little one(s) those attending had loved and lost.  All in all, it was a precious time for us in a beautiful cathedral setting.  We both cried through the whole thing but we found those tears to be healing.  Saying Goodbye offers these services regularly in different parts of the country. I share our experience with the hope that maybe someone else might be helped by these videos or a service in their area.

41OnNSFnYOLNancy Guthrie – Along with a few others from church, Peter and I recently went to day conference called, “Ministering to Broken Hearts.”  The speaker, Nancy Guthrie, and her husband David, have experienced the loss of two of their children and gave us some excellent teaching on how to help people who are grieving.  I have typed up my notes from the conference and would be glad to email them to anyone who would like a copy.  We also bought some of Nancy’s books at the conference.  I am almost done with Be Still My Soul, which is a compilation of “25 classic and contemporary readings on the problem of pain.”  God has really been using it in my heart.  Each chapter stands alone and can be read in a short sitting.  I am looking forward to reading some of the others we bought:  Hearing Jesus Speak Into Your Sorrow, Holding Onto Hope, and The One Year Book of Hope.

The Mystery of History – Lastly, a homeschooling resource.  We used volume one of this homeschool history curriculum last year and though it was phenomenal.  It covered ancient history from a Christian perspective – from Creation to the Resurrection.  We loved how it tied together secular ancient history with Bible history.  The kids begged me to use Volume Two this year and we have also greatly enjoyed this one!  As a mum, I love how I can read the lessons to all my children but there are age appropriate activities for all of them.  It also includes quizzes, worksheets, map assignments, exams and timeline activities. The author often focuses on people rather than events.  I like this as I think it’s much more interesting to study history biographically.  The author also writes in a very conversational style that is fun and easy for the kids to listen to.  We hope to use Volume Three and Four in the future!

Hope some of these reviews were helpful to you!

Italy Photos – finally

Post on Italy021

We’ve been back from our Italy trip two weeks now.  These two weeks have been extremely busy for us as we adjust to our new situation.  We shared in our last mini-update that we are praying about starting a new church and have been transitioning out of our current church.  It’s been a complicated time, full of mixed emotions, but we are thanking God for answered prayers and trusting Him to continue working as we pursue starting a new church.  We hope to send out another mini-update very shortly and will hopefully explain more details.  Some of you have asked for points for prayer too and we will get those out to you just as soon as we can.  For now, we want to share some photos with you from our Italy trip which was a huge blessing to our family . . . a hug from God just when we needed it.

In school recently we talked about how the early Christians used to draw signs for each other in the catacombs when they were under persecution. The kids decided to make their own symbols to let people know they'd been there!

After awhile the clouds lifted and we saw the mountains just surrounding us everywhere - amazing!

After awhile the clouds started lifting . . .It reminded me that sometimes, life is very confusing and we feel we can’t see what God is doing.  But even in the “fog” He is there, just like the mountains were there, even though we couldn’t see them at first.  He is our never-changing faithful Father.  Lord, please help us trust you in the foggy times.

When the clouds were gone, we could see mountains in every direction! Joel had his plastic gun with him and was in his own world on the mountaintop.

Here are some more views from the top of Sass Pordoi. It took us two tries (first day we failed!) to figure out how to get up there, but I am sure glad we persevered!  Reminded me again of another God thought: in the end, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Peter took the children to the town where he grew up. They went to his old block of flats and the landlord actually let them inside the flat where he lived as it was vacant. Great fun for the kids to see where Dad grew up! Here they all are on the balcony of the flat.

All in all it was a fantastic trip.  We made lots of memories as a family and got lots of down time too to play games, read, watch dvds and eat popcorn and just be together.  Thank you Lord for a special trip.

Peter and Joel are currently in Oregon, USA.  Peter, Ron and Dave S. are running a Cor Deo intensive this week and Peter and Dave are preaching in churches and spending time wtih supporters.  Please pray for them to have physical energy and God’s words to say as they preach and teach.  It was Joel’s turn for a special trip with Dad and he is getting lots of time with his cousins, aunt and uncle and grandparents.  The girls and I are holding down the fort here and so far we are doing just great.  Four days down and seven to go!  I thank God for good friends who are blessing us and for His peace and energy.  Thank you for your prayers. They are definitely keeping all of us going.  When Peter gets back we will send out another mini-update.

Life has been really full-on for us recently.  Forgive us for not being very communicative!  The Cor Deo intensive and invitational courses at the start of September were very encouraging times for us and Peter has now completed his four week September series on “The Basic Building Blocks of the Faith” at our church.  He also preached through part of Ephesians as an evening series.  He is aiming to get both series online, hopefully today.

A lot has been happening in our lives lately and I am struggling to know where to start describing it all.  We are sending out prayer update later today to share some news.  Please email us if you haven’t received it and would like to.

Ministry is often really full-on for us and if we’re not careful, every gap in the schedule gets filled and we are not allowing time for rest and refreshment.  About a year ago, with this need in mind, we scheduled a vacation/holiday in Italy and the time has come for us to leave!  We didn’t know how the timing would work out, but the Lord did.  Coming off the back of this intense time in our lives, we do feel in need of a break.  We were supposed to leave today but due to several of us being unwell, we decided to delay leaving til tomorrow morning.  Please pray we will all feel well enough tomorrow, especially Peter as he does the driving.  We have two full days of driving to reach the Val di Fassa, in the mountains where we are staying.  Please pray for us . . . we need sleep and rest and time to pray and just laugh, play and connect as a family.

It’s been awhile since I posted photos . . . so here are some from the past few weeks.  I hope it gives you a little peek into our family life.  I know this post is already long . . . I did honestly try to whittle down the number I chose but . . . well, I love them all!

That’s it for photos for now . . . time for a rest and final preparations to leave tomorrow.  Thank you for reading this long post and for your prayers for us at this time in our lives.  We feel the battle that rages unseen around us and we are trusting in our loving Father to carry us through.
